BAKÁ HOMESTEAD

A typical Baká homestead is made up of collection of round-shaped huts depending on the number of occupants. Some of the round shaped huts normally small in size belong to the children who are becoming of age. At the center of the homestead is always a raised round-shaped granary or Gbagba as the Baká call it. The granary is often used for storage of primarily food such as grains, legumes and others. Sometimes the granary is also used as a storage and hiding spot for some important artifacts. At the center of the homestead is also the Mbayii which is a 6 -8  meters long-standing pole often planted in the middle of a homestead to signify a pillar or center of gravity of a homestead. The highest point of the pole is decorated with miniature and artistic versions of baskets known as Gbété, and Ku’bi.
